Primary Rhinoplasty
Rhinoplasty
is an extremely exacting procedure that generally takes around
2 hours depending on the surgeon experience and the complexity
of the operation. The surgery involves a small incision in the area between the nostrils
(called the columella) in addition to the incisions inside of the nose.
In order to narrow the large or flared nostrils, external incisions are
sometimes necessary but they are invisible, concealed in the nostril’s
crease.
During surgery, the nostrils are pushed aside
with instruments which will allow reducing or increasing the size of
your nose, changing the shape of the tip or the bridge, narrowing the
nostrils orifices, or changing the angle between your nose and upper
lip.
Any deviation of the septum and the nasal bridge must be corrected simultaneously.
Technical mistakes and errors in judgment can cause
failures in rhinoplasty.
Sometimes the problems are minor and easily corrected, but important
defects are always more difficult to correct and requires long experience
and more expertise than in primary surgery.
To rebuild the nose Dr Gilbert Aiach uses a large range of techniques including grafting techniques with cartilage taken exclusively from the patient: from inside the nose (Septal cartilage) or from the ear (the incision is made behind the ear).
The results depend on the complexity of the surgery but it is always possible to achieve noticeable improvements.
